In Chapter 3, we discussed greatly about people settling in Nebraska. Some topics we discussed in this chapter was the Kansas-Nebraska Act, Slavery and Sectionalism, Transportation, and the Homestead Act. I loved learning all about why and how people settled in Nebraska.
The first project I made was the Kolaches. I love baking and this project was right up my alley. First, you have to mix up all the ingredients for the dough. Then, you have to make them into the circular shape. Next, I let them rise a little bit longer. Once they were ready, I took a spoon, made a hole in the kolache, and put filling on top. I had two types of filling, blueberry and cherry. I cooked them in the oven at 400 degrees for 9 minutes. The very last step I did was mix milk and powdered sugar together to make the frosting. YUM!
I can really imagine all of the settlers baking these delicious pastry items for their families. Flour from the wheat, water from a nearby stream, and even some freshly picked berries for the filling. I presented this project on March 31st.

Sod-House
The next project I did was the sod-house. I made my sod-house out of some yummy chocolate cocoa pebbles, marshmallows, and coconut. It was hard enough making a food sod-house, I can't imagine making a real one with dirt, grass, and all of the other resources they used! I placed my project on a cardboard box. Then, I cut out the cocoa pebbles and coconut into little, thin strips. Next, I stacked one on top of each other, very carefully. Also, I added a couple horses just to make it more realistic. I enjoyed creating this project because it involved cooking and helping me actually picture was the structure would have looked like. I would have build the structure more sturdy if I were to do it again. I presented this project on March 31st.
Below, I have added a button that includes a link to my Prezi over my family history. I really, really enjoyed this project. I love learning all about how my family got to Loup City, Nebraska. I have heard several of my family members talk about those people, and now I know exactly who they are talking about! Prezi was very easy to use and it was exactly what I wanted to present my story with. I would definitely recommend it! Enjoy! I presented this project to the class on March 31st.
